Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Viorel Gherciu said that a Moldovan law obliges the stores to exhibit national products on 50% of the length of shelves. Difficulties in selling fresh and processed products are faced only by those who do not ensure high quality. The national products of a high quality in stores are sold faster than the imported ones, IPN reports.
The law on domestic trade that obliges the shop chains to display national products on 50% of the length of the shelf was promulgated last December. The minister said the law advantages only the producers who meet the quality standards and ensure large quantities of products.
“The national products should be supplied in the necessary quantity and in the assortment requested by consumers. The high-quality products that are requested by consumers can be found on shelves in stores in the Republic of Moldova. I discuss with producers that have high-quality products and they sat that they do not encounter difficulties in selling their goods. Impediments are experienced only by those who do not ensure quality. I know companies that provide fresh and processed products and the demand for their goods is high and they cannot satisfy demand,” Viorel Gherciu stated in the program “Black Box” on TV8 channel.
At the same time, Viorel Gherciu said that after taking over the Ministry, he managed to increase the agriculture subsidization fund and to restructure a number of subordinated agencies, including the Agency for Intervention and Payments in Agriculture.
“The agriculture subsidization fund was raised for the first time by 430 million lei. The list of subsidies is public. Over 2,400 persons benefitted from subsidies last year. I met with farmers from districts who received such subsidies and I saw that investments were made in the agricultural sector,” stated Viorel Gherciu.
As to the results achieved during the first 100 days in office, the minister said that 120 million lei in financial support was offered to farmers interest-free so as to help them modernize the agricultural machinery.
