Viorel Cibotaru: PLDM will make concessions in process of choosing common candidate

The Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM) wants the opposition parties of the center-right to choose a common candidate for the presidential elections and will accept any supported candidate, the party’s chairman Viorel Cibotaru stated in the talk show “Interpol” on TV7 channel, IPN reports.

Viorel Cibotaru said the PLDM wants to identify a common candidate together with the European People’s Party (PPEM), the Party “Action and Solidarity” (PAS) and the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” (PPDA) and agreed three mechanisms for selecting this. “The first variant is for this candidate to be a party leader with the biggest chances. The second variant is to choose a candidate who forms part of a party, while the party leaders will transfer image to this. The third variant is to select a candidate who does not form part of a party, but is a personality from the fields of arts, science or literature and has sufficient image to be voted,” he stated.

The Liberal-Democratic leader noted that the PLDM supports the third variant, but will accept the candidate-party leader or the candidate-party member.  “The PLDM will make compromises. One should concede in politics,” he said.

Viorel Cibotaru considers that if the PLDM, PPEM, PAS and PPDA have a common candidate, this will have chances to win the presidential elections. If each of these parties fields their own candidate, they will have no chance. For now the four parties discuss the methods of choosing the candidates and the discussions are not at all easy. “Most probably, we will invite specialists to help us agree a candidate,” he stated.
