Viorel Bologan leader at Karpov Chess Tournament
Moldovan grandmaster Viorel Bologan, ranked 42nd in the world, held a press conference on Thursday in Chisinau to express his satisfaction about participating in the International Chess Tournament in Poikovsky, Russia, dedicated to the great player Anatoly Karpov. Viorel Bologan scored 7 points, sharing the first place with Russia's Sergey Karjakin.
The tournament brought together 12 chess players from 7 countries, with an average rating of 2,695 points, which corresponds to FIDE's 18th category.
Earlier Viorel Bologan participated in the 40th Sarajevo Tournament, where he shared the second and the third places with Zakhar Efimenko of Ukraine.
In early June, Viorel Bologan launched two new DVDs with chess lessons in English, devoted to the Philidor Defense and the Rossolimo Attack openings.
The next competition where Viorel Bologan intends to play is the World Chess Olympiad to take place in Khanty-Mansiysk from September 19 to October 4.
