Viktor Yanukovych and Yulia Tymoshenko to compete in run-off
With 60% of the votes counted, the Central Election Commission of Ukraine announced former Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych led current PM Yulia Tymoshenko by 36.38% to 24.41%. A second round run-off will take place as no candidate would win more than 50% of the vote, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Former Ukrainian central bank governor Sergey Tigipko comes next with 13.22% of the vote. He is followed by former Speaker Arseni Iatseniuk with 6.84% and the current President Viktor Yushchenko with 4.98%.
A total of 18 candidates took part in the January 17 election.
The second round will be held in three weeks, on February 7.
