The video surveillance system in the capital city will be modernized and extended at national level in four stages. The implementation of a new concept that envisions such measures could be implemented during three years and the necessary investments are estimated at 237 million lei. The information was presented in a meeting centering on the issue, IPN reports.
Andrian Șova, director of the Information Technology Service, said the system for monitoring road traffic in the municipality of Chisinau at present consists of 40 surveillance points at 33 intersections. The proposed monitoring system could be integrated into a more complex system for ensuring road traffic safety that is called Safe City. The extension of the system will contribute to eliminating acts of corruption in the process of recording violations.
In 2018, the Information Technology Service invested in setting up six monitoring points with 15 surveillance cameras in the municipality of Chisinau. After the cameras were set up and the monitoring points started to be used, fines of 15 million lei were collected in only six months, stated Andrian Șova.
The National Patrol Inspectorate last year compiled 163,000 contravention reports, 54% of which were generated by the automated system. The imposed fines came to almost 56 million lei.
