Video cameras to be installed at intersections in Chisinau

The Chisinau authorities will receive a non-reimbursable $3.6 million loan from China to purchase video cameras to monitor traffic. The announcement was made by Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca at a meeting of the municipal services and divisions on October 19, Info-Prim Neo reports. Dorin Chirtoaca said he found out about the loan only several days ago, though the documents to accept the financial assistance was signed by officials of the Greceanyi Government in December 2008. The video cameras will be installed at intersections in Chisinau, no matter if there are traffic lights or not. The pictures taken by the cameras will be processed by a special center. Asked if they knew about this loan, deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu said he didn't, while the head of the General Transport and Communications Division Veaceslav Terna stated he heard about it only once, at the meeting of the Road Safety Council. The map with the related documents was submitted to Dorin Chirtoaca by the Government's chancellery several days ago.
