Victor Stratila, the candidate of the Green Ecologist Party, said he must be elected mayor because he is the best candidate as he knows how, can and wants to change things in Chisinau for the benefit of its inhabitants, not of the groups of interest, as until now. In the second round of the public debate “I ask you to elect me mayor because...”, organized by IPN News Agency, the candidate said he knows the problems faced by the city and can deal with them because he has the necessary training and experience.
The candidate said he has military studies and learned how to achieve a victory. He is the person who does not give up. He studied law and learned to obey the laws, to give preeminence to the law and to demand to respect the law. He graduated from the Faculty of Psychology where he learned to interact with people and groups of people so as to guide them for their benefit. He also has anticorruption experience as he graduated from anticorruption courses in the U.S. where he learned corruption fighting skills and strategies.
Victor Stratila said that as a lawyer, he struggled to remove the gas stations from the yards of apartment buildings so as to restore the green areas and ban the felling of trees. As part of the National Integrity Commission, he identified dishonest persons and made their names public.
In his platform, the candidate centers on seven strategic objectives, such as the replacement of the current system of management in Chisinau municipality, establishment of a number of partnerships with municipalities managed by the European Greens with the support of the European Green Party, improvement of the situation in education, health and culture, exclusion of selfish party dictatorship from the administration of Chisinau, transformation of the municipality into a clean, green, presentable and comfortable place, revision and assessment of the corruption risks of the legislation that regulates the activity of the City Hall.
Victor Stratila said that he built a good team that consists of members of the Green Ecologist Party to implement these priorities and is supported by the European Greens. The City Hall was managed by representatives of parties that said they are pro-European, but changed nothing in the structure of the City Hall. “They left it as they inherited it in the Soviet time. We have clear views how to optimize the structure of the City Hall, how many employees should work here and how to divide responsibilities so that the Chisinau City Hall works as the City Halls of the green European cities,” concluded the candidate.
According to the project’s standing expert Igor Botan, executive director of the Association for Participatory Democracy (ADEPT), from the statements made by Victor Stratila at the debates, the voters can deduce that “this candidate is green, but ripen”. His electoral program reveals his experience. He has abilities as a jurist and psychologist and knows to give orders. His platform contains parts of the program of the European Greens and this is something extraordinary for the citizens of Chisinau.
The public debate “I ask you to elect me mayor because...” was the 90th installment of the series of debates “Developing political culture through political debates” that are financially supported by the German Foundation “Hanns Seidel”.
