Judoka Victor Sterpu has won a bronze medal at the Antalya Judo Grand Slam that brought together athletes from 93 countries, IPN reports.
He made his debut with two victories in the 73 kg class, against Algeria’s Fethi Nourine and Mexico’s Gilberto Cardoso, but was beaten by the future winner Fabio Basile of Italy, Olympic champion in2016.
In the playoffs, Victor, who has practically qualified for the Tokyo Olympics, scored two more victories, against Belgian’s Jeroen Casse and Poland’s Adam Stodolski.
In the 81 kg class, Dorin Goțonoagă beat Musa Simsek of Turkey, but lost to David Karapetyan of Russia, while in the 60 kg class, Nicolae Foca was defeated by Karamat Huseynov of Azerbaijan.
