Victor Stepaniuc: I’m not anti-Communist

Former Deputy Premier and Communist MP Victor Stepaniuc in a news conference said he was not anti-Communist, but does not agree with the economic policies promoted by the Communists Party, this being one of the reasons why he left it, Info-Prim Neo reports. Victor Stepaniuc, who runs as an independent in the early legislative elections, said there are no doctrinaire parties in Moldova today and the politicians promote only group interests not of the people. Many of the persons who entered Parliament are only voting machines. “They do not know the reality as they are educated on the asphalt in Chisinau,” said Victor Stepaniuc, suggesting that most of the candidates are from the capital city. “The November 28 elections will be a test which will show if the population wants to vote for persons, not parties. Many people know me and I want to say I’m not ashamed of my biography,” he stressed. Stepaniuc’s electoral platform includes eight chapters that focus on rapid economic growth, active social and foreign policy, modern education, programs for the youth and culture. Victor Stepaniuc defected from the Communists Party at the end of last year together with a group of Communist MPs and joined the United Moldova Party. He then left this party too. In the ballots for the November 28 elections, he will be the 20th.
