The situation in the Republic of Moldova started to worsen under the Communist rule, while the government that took over in 2009 excessively politicized the state institutions and worsened further the state of affairs, ex-president of the Constitutional Court Victor Puscas said in the program “Interpol” on TV7 channel, IPN reports.

“When Mircea Snegur was President, the situation was different. The deterioration started when the Party of Communists came to power. Any appointment had to be coordinated with Voronin. My former driver from the Constitutional Court wanted to become employed as a driver at an embassy. He wasn’t hired until Voronin gave his consent. You can realize how the situation was if even the hiring of a driver depended on the head of state,” stated Puscas.

The former judge considers the distribution of the state institutions, especially of the law enforcement ones, was the biggest mistake made by the government that took over in 2009 and declared itself pro-European as this led to the capturing of the state. “Starting with 2009, the situation has deteriorated. It is suitable for the ruling political class to control the rule of law institutions and the police. That’s why they do not want to reform the law enforcement bodies,” he stated.

Victor Puscas noted the Constitutional Court could also be politically controlled. “It’s hard to say exactly, but the Constitutional Court set at least five dangerous precedents. One refers to the coalition that was formed in Parliament, while another one is the decision as a result of which Vlad Filat was dismissed from the post of Prime Minister for acts of corruption. The Court cannot provide evidence. It only pronounces on matters,” he said.
