Victor Puscas: Constitutional Court started to exceed its authority

The Constitutional Court of Moldova (CCM) began to apply a dangerous practice and to lay down behavioral rules for the entities of constitutional law, the Court’s ex-president Victor Puscas stated in the talk show “Politics” on TV 7 channels, IPN reports.

“The CCM started to exceed its authority. The decision to return to the election of the head of state by direct vote could have been taken by Parliament, which is authorized to amend the Constitution. The Court’s judges have lately imposed their rules on us. They impose behavioral rules for the entities of constitutional law. The CCM can only pronounce on the constitutionality, but cannot amend the Constitution,” said Puscas.

According to him, the CCM’s judgment was unpredictable.  “Each of the sides that comes to the CCM has its own evidence. Let’s assume that a side has 70% of the proofs. It is easy to predict that the side with the largest number of proofs will win. The CCM’s judgment of March 4 is hallucinating. Who stands to gain? I think we all only lost,” said the former CCM president.

He made a reply to the incumbent president of the CCM Alexandru Tanase. “I was accused by the current CCM president of criticizing the Court’s judgments and of thus not respecting the Declaration of Independence. I want to remind him that I’m one of those who signed the Declaration of Independence,” he stated.
