The contract for the purchase of electrical energy from the Kuchurgan Power Plant (MGRES) could be extended for a longer period of time, said Minister of Energy Victor Parlicov. According to him, the authorities are negotiating the renewal of the contract with the Transnistrian leaders. The minister noted that the extension of the environmental permit for the Rybnitsa steel works is no longer an important component of the negotiations as the company complies with the legislation of the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.
The right bank of the Nistru purchases 90% of the necessary electrical energy from the Kuchurgan Power Plant at the price of US$66 per MWh, as opposed to US$73 earlier. The minister of energy said they insist on keeping this purchase price at the negotiations. “We propose continuing the contract. They want to raise the price. They do not provide figures as any said figure affects the negotiations. I think it is in the interest of both of the sides to avoid last year’s bad scenario. Everyone realizes this and I hope that in the end we will reach a consensus. We proposed signing a long-term contract. The chances are good to have energy at the same price, but I do not exclude a period during which they will try to blackmail,” Victor Parlicov stated in the program “Secrets of the Power” on Jurnal TV channel.
In exchange for an advantageous price for electrical energy, the Commission for Exceptional Situations offers an environmental permit to the Rybnitsa steel works. The current permit expires on September 30, 2023. The minister of energy said the Rybnitsa steel works has gradually complied with the legislation of the Republic of Moldova and the Commission for Exceptional Situations will no longer need to intervene.
According to Energocom company, MGRES in September will supply 302,000 MWh of power of the necessary 334,000 MWh to the right side of the Nistru. Another 13,400 MWh will be bought from renewable energy producers and urban thermoelectric plants, while the rest of the necessary electricity will be covered with purchases made through OPCOM.
