Victor Osipov: The EU recommends Moldovan authorities to act without emotions in Vardanyan's case

“The European Union recommended that Moldova should act without emotions in the case of the journalist Ernest Vardanyan (who was arrested in Tiraspol – e.n.),” Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Victor Osipov said during a press briefing held on April 22, following his visit to Brussels during April 13-17, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The European officials said we should not build the reaction or intervention on momentary emotions as the major objective is to find a solution so that the groundless charges are dropped,” Victor Osipov said. According to the Deputy Premier, the Moldovan authorities are supported by the international community in their efforts. All the 56 OSCE member states were informed about this case in detail. “Certainly, a journalist attracts the attention of the mass media and other circles. But a Cossack was also arrested there under the same changes (betrayal of the state – e.n.) two weeks ago,” Victor Osipov said, referring to the problem of the observance of human rights in the Transnistrian region. “Given this illogical accusation, its effects and the way in which this situation is treated by certain political forces, we can say that those who orchestrated this operation aimed to discredit the Transnistrian regime. I hope they will understand that they walked into this trap,” Osipov said. Asked to comment on the accusations made by representatives of the Communists Party, who said the Deputy Prime Minister should have traveled immediately to Tiraspol to deal with this case, Victor Osipov said it is an absurd idea. “The Communists know how hard it is to get to Tiraspol. They always boasted that Vladimir Voronin has authority and ties there. If the Communists have such possibilities they should prove they can do something. We took and will continue to take steps to solve the problem,” he said. Owing to the ash cloud caused by a volcano eruption in Iceland, Victor Osipov postponed his trip to Washington, which he was to visit after Brussels.
