Victor Osipov: Economic strangulation of Transnistria is not a solution for reintegration

Victor Osipov, ex-Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, considers it is not right to accelerate the process of Transnistria’s reintegration by an economic blockage. He made such a statement in the talk show “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.

“I think it is not right to strangulate Transnistria’s economy. This will make the people there more inimical. We must attract the people of Transnistria on our side by higher living conditions,” stated the former Deputy Prime Minister.

Victor Osipov called on the current Government to support the commercial relations with the Transnistrian region. “We must regard the commercial relations with Transnistria as potential for reunifying the country. These relations help us to maintain closer ties with the people there,” he said.

Victor Osipov pleaded for continuing the dialogue with Tiraspol, but suggested omitting the conditions imposed by the Transnistrian officials. “Conditions should not be imposed. When this is done, it means that there is no wish to have a dialogue,” he stated.
