Director of the Justice Program of Soros Foundation Moldova Victor Munteanu said any person in our country has the right to the presumption of innocence, which is the only inviolable principle, and what happen to Vlad Filat was namely indirect violation of the presumption of innocence. In an interview for Radio Free Europe, Munteanu said the way in which the Lib-Dem was arrested and the searches were performed at the domicile of Vlad Filat and at the head office of the Liberal Democratic Party represent a demonstration of force, a show designed to affect Vlad Filat’s self-pride, IPN reports.
“All this orchestration pursued only one goal – not to directly violate his presumption of innocence, but to dishonor him and to hit him directly in his vainglory. Or else I do not have an explanation for the show at Filat’s domicile, the films on YouTube about how the wife of Mister Filat leaves home together with the child, etc.” said the program director.
According to Victor Munteanu, it is evident that the politician wasn’t prepared for such developments and was taken by surprise. Filat will appear before a judge and it will become known if there are other arguments for his arrest except for those that were made public. “I assume the Prosecutor’s Office has additional evidence. We will see if he is placed under arrest for a longer period or under house arrest, or is eventually released,” he stated.
Victor Munteanu also spoke about the self-denouncing statements of Ilan Shor. “What those statements say – that he gave Filat 250 million of euros or dollars bribe. A person who comes and makes such statements incriminates oneself. Isn’t it the case for this person to also leave for a period the post that implies the management of public resources – that of mayor of Orheiului?”, he asked
According to him, the principles and values cannot ignore. If the law is applied selectively or if other things happen besides the legal ones, if there is a secret agreement and the law is used as an instrument for reaching particular obscure goals, we are then fully in a different dimension.
