Victor Chironda: Pedestrian infrastructure is a priority

The capital is full of cars parked on sidewalks, at public transport waiting stations, but also in other public spaces, says Victor Chironda, candidate of "New Force" Social-Political Movement for the position of general mayor of Chisinau. According to him, the pedestrian infrastructure is a priority as the situation worsens every day due to the increase in the number of cars, IPN reports.

The statement has been made at a press conference held on the sidewalk at the intersection of Moscow boulevard with Miron Costin street. "We decided to hold this conference here to focus on one of the most important problems faced by Chisinau today, namely the seizure and destruction of the pedestrian infrastructure of this city," said Victor Chironda.

According to the candidate, specifically on this address, at the intersection of Moscow boulevard with Miron Costin street, a building appeared against which many people protested, but the construction works continued and it will soon be put into operation. Another problem is the sidewalk around this building. The project for the construction of the respective building provided for the arrangement of parking spaces at the expense of the sidewalks. And this is despite the fact that the building has underground parking.

"We intend to review all these projects, to require the economic agents to build the sidewalks correctly and to arrange the public spaces around the buildings so that they are accessible and comfortable for pedestrians," noted the candidate. As the sidewalks become narrower while the flow of pedestrians is large, the circulation is extremely difficult, especially for people with reduced mobility, said Victor Chironda.
