Victor Chironda was discharged from the post of deputy mayor in charge of urbanism and urban mobility. The decision was adopted in the meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council by the votes of 28 councilors. The councilors representing the PAS, PPPDA and New Force left the hall. Unaffiliated councilor Veaceslav Nedelea voted against, IPN reports.
In the meeting, mayor Ion Ceban said the projects for which Victor Chironda is responsible, such as parking lots, transport, urbanism and road repair, are overdue. The dismissal was also requested following the conclusions reached by the working groupie set up to elucidate the absence of the deputy mayor from work and the unfounded statements he made after the approval of the demolition of Național Hotel.
After he was discharged, Victor Chironda said what happened in the meeting of the CMC was typical political revenge. “For me, this leaving is not a tragedy. It has become clear for me that I do not belong to this dream team of corrupt persons from the City Hall. This became clear when my attempts to reorganize the Architecture Division and the Transport Division were blocked and, instead of bringing new people to the City Hall, the mayor preferred to work with old people who are experienced in the implementation of schemes,” he posted on Facebook. He announced he will present a report on work done during almost two years in office next Thursday.
Victor Chironda was named deputy mayor of Chisinau municipality in November 2019, by the votes of 41 councilors. The deputy mayors are named at the suggestion of the mayor general by the decision of the Chisinau Municipal Council with a majority of the votes of councilors.
