Victor Chirilă proposed for ambassador to Romania

Foreign policy expert Victor Chirilă has been proposed for the position of Moldova’s ambassador to Romania. His candidacy has received the formal approval of Parliament’s foreign policy commission.

Victor Chirilă has a master’s degree in European policies and a bachelor’s degree in history. Since December 2020 he has served as Executive Director of the Foreign Policy Association, whose president he was from December 2016 to December 2019.

The diplomat also has professional experience in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova. He also served as an advisor at the Moldovan Embassy in the United States.

According to the Law on Diplomatic Service, Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Representatives, Envoys and Chargé d'Affaires (Permanent) - Heads of Diplomatic Missions - are appointed and recalled by the President of the Republic of Moldova, at the proposal of the Government. Proposals for appointment to these positions are submitted to the Government by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, in consultation with Parliament’s foreign policy commission.
