It is a meeting that will bring the strategic partnership between Romania and the Republic of Moldova to a new level, Moldova’s Ambassador in Bucharest Victor Chirilă said, referring to the joint meeting of the governments of the two states set to take place in Chisinau today. According to the diplomat, Romania remains the most important advocate of the Republic of Moldova in Brussels and the country can come closer to the big European family with the assistance of Bucharest, through concrete country development and modernization projects, IPN reports.
The ambassador said the joint meeting of the Governments is a gesture of strategic cooperation between the two states. After a period during which the former governments had a less friendly rhetoric with respect to Romania, now the two states have a common agenda.
“It is a very important, symbolical meeting that will give an impetus to our cooperation, to our strategic partnership that is the quintessence of our European integration project because we can accelerate this process only together with Romania and through Romania. It is important to subscribe to the standards, principles, values of the European Union and to connect to the European Union through transport, energy networks, by creating a common market with the European Union. This can be done only with the assistance of Romania,” Victor Chirilă stated in the talk show “Thursday with Liliana Barbăroșie” on the public TV channel.
Thanks to the non-reimbursable financial assistance to the value of €100 million, there will be implemented infrastructure projects that will change the face of rural localities in the Republic of Moldova, said Chirilă.
“After ten years of discussions, the two Governments realize that a unique opportunity exists now owing to our citizens who made an important choice in 2020 and 2021. We all know the history of the last ten years. It was a period marred by political instability, lack of coherence of messages coming from Chisinau. We had a captured state that upset the agenda with the EU and Romania. A window of opportunity appeared now. The money will be allocated for implementing strategic projects and for developing our villages, for water supply systems and other essential things so as to increase the living standards in rural areas. Money will also be allocated for cultural project,” stated Ambassador Chirilă.
Later today, the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of Romania are to sign an agreement on non-reimbursable financial assistance to the value of €100 million, an agreement on the building of a bridge between Ungheni in Moldova and Ungheni in Romania, an agreement on the renovation and modernization of the Ghiurgiulești-Galați bridge and an agreement on the reduction of roaming charges.
