Former minister of the interior Victor Catan said President Igor Dodon, who at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe asked for international recognition of Moldova’s military neutrality, is the first who violated the country’s neutrality and he actually pursues the policy of another state, IPN reports.
“Igor Dodon is the first who violated the neutrality of the Republic of Moldova as he always pleaded for keeping the armed forces of the Russian Federation on Moldova’s territory until the definitive settlement of the Transnistrian conflict. For this thing, the President, who is the guarantor of the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, should bear responsibility in accordance with Article 337 of the Penal Code – treason. The persons who provide information and promote the policy of foreign states that are hostile to the diplomacy, political system of Moldova, can be convicted,” the ex-minister stated in the talk show “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel.
Former minister of defense Viorel Cibotaru said the plan for obtaining the international recognition of Moldova’s neutrality failed as no one accepted this position. “The Moldovan officials do not support such a position and this is very good news. The balloon that the Party of Socialists tried to swell up together with Dodon and to represent the Republic of Moldova in this regard didn’t help,” he stated.
Political commentator Anatol Țăranu said Foreign Minister Aureliu Ciocoi’s statement that Russia intervened in Transnistria to stop the bloodshed there does not represent the personal stance of the minister and is actually the position of the current government, including President Igor Dodon. “Dodon spoke through Ciocoi. This is the position of President Igor Dodon. When he took up his duties, he laid flowers at the monument to Kazaks in Tighina. Dodon renders homage and brings flowers to the Kazaks, who were outlaws, mercenaries who committed atrocities, war crimes,” he stated, noting that this opinion stated by the minister of foreign affairs should be either adjusted by Igor Dodon or fully shifted onto President Dodon.
Anatol Țăranu stated the Republic of Moldova goes towards federalization with small steps. “It is the golden dream of the Russian Federation as federalization means absolute control over the Republic of Moldova through the agency of Tiraspol. Moscow institutes direct control over the Republic of Moldova. This is what expects us and this is what the minister meant. He actually confirmed this,” stated the expert.
