The victims of Stalinist deportations will be commemorated on July 6 by a series of activities nationwide. Over 8,000 persons who are victims of political repressions will receive by 1,000 lei in assistance from the state on this occasion, IPN reports.
On June 21, Prime Minister Pavel Filip convened a working meeting where he ordered to set up an organizational committee for holding the events dedicated to the Day of Remembrance for Victims of Stalinist Deportations.
June 6 will be declared a national mourning day. The state flags all over the country will be flown at half-mast and a moment of silence will be observed at 10am. Flowers will be laid at the monuments to the victims of deportations. There will also be staged solemn meetings and thematic exhibitions of photos, documents and books.
Starting with 2016, July 6 has been marked as the Day of Remembrance for Victims of Stalinist Deportations. About 87,000 persons were displaced as a result of the deportations of 1941, 1949 and 1951.
