Victims of April 2009 events can collect allowances at two ministries
The persons who were injured during the April 7, 2009 protests will be able to receive the lump sums provided by the Government at the Ministry of the Interior in the case of police officers, and at the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family in the case of civilians, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a news conference on April 5, Deputy Minister of Justice Vladimir Grosu said that the money will be transferred immediately after the Government Decision on the provision of allowances is published.
Lump sums of 5,000 to 7,000 lei, depending of the seriousness of the caused injuries, will be given to 116 persons - 73 civilians and 43 employees of law enforcement bodies. A sum of 632,000 lei will be spent for the purpose.
“The allowances provided to the victims of the April 7, 2009 events should be regarded as financial support from the state,” said Vladimir Grosu. He added that the ECHR may take this assistance into account when it passes decisions to award damages to the protest victims who filed complaints to it.
The commission for the identification and compensation of the victims of the April 2009 events continues work. The applications submitted after March 30 and those that need special attention will be examined in the next meetings.
By a decision taken on October 15, 2010, the Government allocated 222,700 lei for compensating the victims of the April 7, 2009 events for the damage caused to them.
