Vice President of the German Bundestag Ulla Schmidt will be paying her first official visit to Moldova on May 10-13, at the invitation of Head of Parliament Igor Corman, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from Parliament, the program of the visit includes meetings with Speaker Igor Corman and Prime Minister Iurie Leanca. Ulla Schmidt will also hold discussions with her Moldovan counterpart Liliana Palihovici and the head of the Democratic parliamentary group Marian Lupu.

On May 10, Igor Corman and Ulla Schmidt will take part in the ceremony to unveil the bust of Karl Schmidt, ex-mayor of Chisinau municipality of German origin. On May 12, the two officials will give a joint press briefing.

While in Chisinau, the Vice President of the German Bundestag will participate in the activities staged within the Moldovan-German week, including the opening of the exhibit “German traces in Moldova, 1814-2014. Tradition and modernization”, at the National Museum of Arts of Moldova, and the première of the movie “At Home, in Marienfeld”.
