Vice-mayor of Codru city is suspected of passive corruption
The vice-mayor of Codru city from Chisinau municipal is suspected of passive corruption. The official was arrested by officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Anticorruption magistracy.
According to the MIA press center, the vice-mayor of Codru, Victor Neagu, was requesting USD 12 thousand from a local resident for a terrain. The victim had the terrain in his possession since February, after the local councilors’ decision. In half a year the man managed to build his house, but was constantly pressured by the Mayoralty official to pay to the local authorities for the terrain’s attribution. The owner of the terrain required assistance from the police.
After several days of filming and evidence collection, the MIA officers and agents of the Anticorruption magistracy arrested Victor Neagu, suspected of passive corruption. If the judiciary instances will find him guilty, the official will have to pay a fine of MDL 60 000 and will spend from 7 to 15 years in jail. After the sentence will be over, the delinquent will not be allowed to hold certain functions for a period of 5 years.
In the 9 months of this year, the Ministry of Internal Affairs registered more than 170 cases of corruption.
