Veterans: Government ignores social package proposed by over 30 associations

The social package proposed and signed by a group of over 30 associations of veterans is not taken into account by the current government, said representatives of a group of veterans of the Independence War. According to them, even if they were told that the social measures are being examined and they will be invited to debates, this didn’t happen. The veterans call on the central administration to devote attention to them and to initiate the examination of the social package and invite them to the debates.

“We made different approaches to the Parliament and the Government but we weren’t heard and were refused. We don’t know the reason as we didn’t receive any response. This is a flagrant violation as during 30 days we should have been informed about the stage at which our request is. We had meetings with MPs of the current government who promised that they are working on this package and we will be invited to the meetings of the responsible commissions. Over a year has passed but we weren’t invited and this concerns us,” war veteran Valentin Ţapeş, chairman of the Organization “Force of Veterans” Ialoveni, stated in a news conference at IPN.

According to him, this shows that the current government does not want a proper dialogue with the veterans and this happens even if the veterans are those who supported them in elections, including on the Transnistrian segment, hampering the organized transportation of voters. “We want to draw attention to the fact that some of those promises were fulfilled but they were mandatory as 2022 was declared the Year of Gratitude. But the package we proposed was rejected. We call on the current government to hear us and to offer us the possibility of working together with them on this social package so that we could implement it in the daily life. The veterans are not aged 20-30 but are close to 50 years or are older. We daily lose a very large number of veterans,” said Valentin Țapeș.

The head of the Tiras-Tighina1992 War Veterans Association Anatolie Caraman said that a bill was drafted but this runs counter to the proposals formulated by the veterans and is even exaggerated. This fact was noted before the bill was submitted to the Government. In another development, the veteran said the protests mounted today are a legitimate right but the protests need to be peaceful and should not be aimed at the state power in favor of another state.

War veteran Ion Rață said the current situation is difficult and is marked by unpredictable phenomena. The events taking place now in Moldova do not have any precedent. In this difficult situation, the war veterans, who are a consistent force, should combine forces to overcome the critical situation.

Veteran Victor Ciobanu said the veterans are indignant at the fact that superior officers dared to speak in the name of all the veterans, which is not right. “We have our position. We know our problems, of the veterans, and will work to solve all them. Do not engage us in different political schemes. We condemn the fact that superior officers dared to speak on behalf of all the veterans,” stated Victor Ciobanu.
