Veterans and internally displaced persons could privatize apartments distributed to them

The war veterans and internally displaced people will be able to private the apartments distributed to them. A bill to ratify Amendment No. 1, signed on April 28, 2018, to the framework loan agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the Council of Europe Development Bank was approved by the Cabinet, IPN reports.

Under the framework agreement, the Council of Europe Development Bank will provide a loan of €4.9 million in six installments for building social apartments for deprived groups of people.

With such funds, two apartment buildings were erected at 21/5 Milescu Spataru St and 9/2 Liviu Deleanu St in Chisinau. The apartments were distributed free by the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) to war veterans and internally displaced persons who were affected by the war for defending the independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova.

Under the conditions of relending by the Ministry of Finance to the CMC, the loan is repayable in 20 years, which is until 2027. The framework agreement envisions that the apartments cannot be privatized until then. In this regard, Amendment No. 1 allows privatizing the apartments distributed in these blocks before 2027 given that the deadline stipulated by the law on the privatization of dwellings distributed from the public housing sector is March 31, 2018.
