Veteran says he has been unable to recover his car for 15 years as he refused to give bribe

Nicolae Besedovschi, a veteran of the Ministry of the Interior, said that for 15 years he has been unable to recover his car from a customs post. In 2005, when he was bringing the unit of transport from the Netherlands, custom officers asked for €1,500 from him for allowing to bring the car into Moldova, but he refused to give bribe. Since then he went to courts and other state institutions to seek justice, but all in vain.

In a news conference at IPN, Nicolae Besedovschi said that at the Cahul customs post in 2005, the customs officers said the legislation banned the import of cars older than ten years. The car was made in 1995, but it hadn’t turned ten when he imported it.

The veteran said he went to court and used all the appeal ways. “Currently, there are two judgments passed by the Supreme Court of Justice that run counter to each other. That of 2005 says the car was made in 1994 and all the proofs I obtained from a number of state institutions in charge of transport, showing that the production year is 1995, were rejected. They accepted only the unsubstantiated assertions of custom officers, who said that the production year was 1994. In 2013, the Supreme Court of Justice accepted all the proofs that were earlier rejected and held that the production year was 1995,” he stated.

Nicolae Besedovschi, who heads the War Veterans Organization “Grieving Mother”, said he took part in many events that involved high-ranking officials and these every time spoke about honor, dignity and respect, but these are only empty words. In protest, the veteran tore up the diplomats he received in gratitude for his participation in the armed conflict of 1992. He said that he does not need paper to maintain his family, his children. The car that was taken away from him in the customs post was bought with honestly earned money, but he was deprived of this vehicle that he could not get back after 15 years.

The veteran noted he will go to the head office of the EU Delegation in Chisinau and will go on hunger strike there as of Funerary 25 in protest at the wrongdoings and acts of corruption that have been committed against his family since 2005 because he refused to give bribe.
