Very Short International Film Festival starts today

The 16th Very Short International Film Festival starts today, May 2, in 28 countries. It will continue until May 11. In Moldova, the event is organized by the French Alliance in cooperation with the French Institute of Romania. The screenings in Chisinau will take place at “Gaudeamus” Movie Theater on May 7. Entrance is free of charge.

Contacted by IPN, Marine Belondrade, who is responsible for culture and communication at the French Alliance, said it was recently announced that those who want to take part in the contest can send the works in Romania. The films were selected by the main organizers from France.

This festival is unique in the world. It is intended both for professionals and for amateurs. The team of the Paris festival watches over 1,000 short films during two months and chooses about 50. They are shown simultaneously in all the participating cities.

Besides the films from the International Selection, there will be presented films that didn’t enter the international competition “Around the Très Courts”. In Chisinau, there will be screened films from the national selection of Romania. The spectators will also be able to see the selection “Très Courts Familial” that includes films about family and a lot of animations.

The screening will last for three hours. Afterward, the spectators will be able to vote for their preferred films in the category “Around the Très Courts” and in the International Selection. “In last year’s festival, Moldova’s Alexei Patrascu won the prize for the animation film “The 8th Millennium Development Goals”, in the category “Around the Très Courts”.
