The international coordination council of opposition parties and NGOs “GUAM” plans to organise by the end of September, simultaneously in each of the 4 member states, ample protest actions against the excessive politicisation of GUAM in detriment to the economic partnership goals. The chairman of the Council, Ilgar Gasimov, who is also the president of the “Azerbaijan’s Way” political party, told a news conference Monday that the form of the protests is to be decided at national level and later approved by the Council. The protests have been preliminary scheduled for September 22. The Council is against the utilisation of the GUAM countries’ territories in the interests of the international military and political organisations, Ilgar Gasimov said. “The territories of the GUAM member-sates must not become an arena of rivalry between the mighty powers”, a statement by the Council reads. “The official GUAM is often going stray. The council is a peaceful organisation, but it has been conceived to criticise GUAM at decisive moments”, said Veronica Abramciuc, member of the Council and president of “Patria Motherland” Party. In her words, every time when the GUAM heads of state will meet at official summits, the Council will also assemble to take a stance toward the adopted decisions. The international coordination council of opposition parties and NGOs “GUAM” was founded in December 2006. Moldova is represented in the Council by two political parties – The Party of Socialists of Moldova “Patria Motherland” and the Socialist Party, as well as by two non-governmental organisations – “Women’s Solidarity” and the Organisation for the Defence of Human Rights “OM”.
