A delegation of the Venice Commission started a two-day working visit to Chisinau on February 11. On the first day of the visit, the delegation had a meeting with members of the Parliament’s legal commission on appointments and immunities.
Contacted by IPN, MP Sergiu Sarbu, who is the deputy head of the commission, said the experts came to Chisinau to find facts and will then formulate recommendations on the bill on the disciplinary punishment of judges.
At the end of 2013, the legislature passed the given bill in the first reading. For the second reading, the MPs asked for the opinion of the Venice Commission.
While in Chisinau, the experts of the Venice Commission will meet with representatives of the Ministry of Justice, the Supreme Council of Magistrates and of civil society.
Under the bill on the disciplinary punishment of judges, the judges can be punished with up to 30% of the salary for disciplinary deviations and professional incompetence.
