About 1,100 former vendor patent holders have migrated to the new self-employment tax regime in three weeks of the entry into force of the new rules. They bought a cash register, went to the Tax Service to register and can already work legally. This was announced by Dumitru Alaiba, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization.
According to the minister, 341 of the vendors have submitted applications to the Organization for the Development of Entrepreneurship (ODA) to be compensated for their transition expenses. 50 have already received the money, and on Friday ODA transferred the amounts to another 150 applicants.
Any former vendor patent holder who transitions to independent activity can benefit from compensation of expenses, up to 10,000 lei. They have until August 31 to submit a respective application.
Before and after the entry into force of the new rules on July 1, vendor patent holders protested the cancellation. They say that the transition to self-employment forces them to use cash registers. Besides the fact that it has to be bought and is not cheap, there are no conditions to use it safely in the markets, behind the stall. Patent holders, many of whom are of retirement age, don’t even have the skills to operate a register, and any mistakes can cost them dearly.
As of December 31, 2022, about 4,800 holders of vendor patents were registered with the State Tax Service.
