The MPs on March 24 adopted in two readings a bill that provides for the extension of the deadline for registering motor vehicles with foreign and Transnistrian license numbers, which were brought into Moldova before November 1, 2016, by three months. Thus, by July 1, 2017, the owners of these cars will pay only 30% of the excise rate set for 2016 for registration, IPN reports.
Deputy Minister of Finance Veronica Vragaleva said that over 14,000 vehicles have been registered so far. Of these, over 1,500 had Transnistrian license numbers. As a result, more than 339 million lei was collected as excise duties. The deadline was extended because the number of those who want to register the vehicles in Moldova increased significantly during the past week and the authorities couldn’t have coped with the large number of applications by April 1.
