The inspection decals from January 1, 2017 will be put on the license plates of vehicles and trailers registered in Moldova, not on the windscreen as now, IPN reports, quoting a Cabinet decision.

Minister of Information and Communication Technology Vasile Botnari said the new decals will help exclude cases of falsification of license plates, will increase their quality and security and will enable to strictly monitor the license numbers.

The decals will be stuck on the front and rear license plates so that they are seen by the automated road traffic monitoring systems. The drivers will be obliged to possess the technical inspection reports that accompany the decals on them. The new decals will be issued based on the experience of a number of states such as Germany, Romania, Austria, Lithuania, and Hungary.

The license plates issued in Moldova since this April contain a special place for the new vehicle inspection decals. The price of license plates will remain the same.

The decals issued before the coming into force of the new rules will be used until their period of validity expires.
