Veaceslav Platon will be heard by bank fraud inquiry commission

The parliamentary inquiry commission investigating the bank fraud will visit the former financier Veaceslav Platon in Prison No. 13 to hear his testimony. The commission’s chairman Alexandru Slusari announced that in the following days more important information is awaited from different persons, including from abroad, regarding the fraudulent 2011-2014  transactions.

On Tuesday, the Commission heard Andrian Candu, former Speaker of Parliament and former Minister of Economy. According to Alexandru Slusari, Andrian Candu "tried to do a bit of a cheap show" and evasively answered the question: "Why did the National Bank of Moldova bring the situation to such a disorder and if Drăguțanu (the National Bank of Moldova governor at that time) bore any blame for it?"

"If the Government granted the State guarantee with the huge risk that this huge amount would be placed on the shoulders of the citizens, why did it not take precautions and did not institute the State administration in the three banks to which it offered the guarantees? This is the worst thing that happened in November 2014 and, indirectly, Mr. Candu confirmed this fact”, said Slusari.

According to Alexandru Slusari, after hearing ex-minister of finance Anatol Arapu, and ex-prosecutor general Corneliu Gurin, the Commission will submit a request to the Prosecutor's Office. "We see the gross negligence of the high-ranking officials from the Government and the National Bank of Moldova, who have granted the State guarantees in colossal amounts without ensuring that these amounts will not be stolen or, at least, the banks to which the State offers the guarantees to be immediately controlled by the State administration”, mentioned Alexandru Slusari.

The parliamentarian also said that he recently received the confirmation that in June 2013-December 2013, when the additional issue of shares was produced at the Banca de Economii, the adviser to the Ministry of Economy was Sergei Iaralov (who is said to be Vlad Plahotniuc's right hand). The Commission has received an internal correspondence confirming that all actions related to Banca de Economii were coordinated with Sergei Iaralov.

Alexandru Slusari hopes that the final report of the Commission can be presented at the first sitting of Parliament's autumn session. He also expressed the hope that the Commission will soon have access to the list of beneficiaries of the theft from the banking system, annexed to the Kroll report.
