Moldovan bsuinessman and ex-MP Veaceslav Platon considers all those who do not know what money laundering is are all fools, IPN reports, quoting an interview with this made by journalists of the Association of Investigative Reporters “RISE Moldova”.
“It’s a pity to say it, but you are all fools. Did you read the Penal Code? You read nothing and only heard… Don’t you know what money laundering is? It is a way of legalizing the incomes obtained illegally,” said the businessman. According to him, if a certain banker didn’t objectively know that the money is of criminal origin, there is no legalization and money laundering.
“The fact that a large sum was transferred somewhere is not a crime. All the discussions about the problems faced in the banking sector pursue one goal – to appropriate the banks that allegedly have problems and work non-transparently,” stated Platon.
The businessman considers that the gates for the theft of US$1 billion were opened by a decision assumed by the Leanca Government before Parliament.
“Those who stole the billion planned their actions very well. By the same decision (of the Leanca Government – e.n.), the Law on Financial Institutions was modified so that shares can be sold only to those who possess the National Bank’s authorization,” said the ex-MP.
As to the laundering of US$18 million from Russia through Moldova, Platon said that instead of transforming Moldova into a financial hub and attracting by the quality of service and simplicity in interaction in accordance with the international standards, we cause an idiotic scandal over inexistent money laundering.
