Veaceslav Neruda: Justice reforms were included in agreement with IMF for first time

For the first time an agreement with the International Monetary Fund covers a set of reforms in the justice sector, which is the big problem of Moldova that causes economic, financial and social problems, ex-minister of finance Veaceslav Negruta stated in an interview for Radio Free Europe, IPN reports.

According to him, some of the elements related to the conditions imposed by the IMF for signing the accord were already identified and placed together with the announcement of the decision of the IMF Board, and these refer to justice. “It is about the banking sector and, first of all, about shareholder transparency. Thus, we speak about the application of resolution formulas and remedying of the situation of some of the banks that can encounter particular difficulties. We also speak about the public finances sector that, as yesterday’s press release showed, witnesses a decline in budget incomes and, respectively, budget constraints that were identified by the IMF experts. So, the set of measures, conditions will refer to these areas,” stated Veaceslav Negruta.

He noted that the new agreement with the IMF does not refer only to access to financing. The financial aspect is possibly only an element and not the most important one. An agreement with the IMF for the Republic of Moldova is important only from the viewpoint of economic, financial and social policies that are to be implemented during the next three years. The government will be in a way obliged by the own society and by the foreign partners to show coherence in the promoted policies. For this to be ensured, Moldova will get almost US$180 million in financial assistance during the next three years, not yet immediately, and it is not definite that the whole sum will be disbursed.
