Veaceslav Ioniță: Instead of €100, Moldovans from diaspora need to send home €150

This year, instead of €100, the Moldovans form the diaspora need to send home 150 for their relatives to purchase the same volume of goods as last year, Veaceslav Ioniță, economic expert of the Institute for Development and Social Initiatives “Viitorul”, posted on social media, IPN reports.

The expert noted that this week, the official exchange rate of the euro decreased to 19.4 lei/euro due to the global depreciation of the euro to the lowest level the past 20 years. Also, the annual rate of inflation in the Republic of Moldova is 31/8%. Respectively, the inflation in euros in Moldova is 45.7%, while for food products is 48.5%,

“In other words, what we could buy with 100 at this time last year can be now bought for almost 150,” stated Veaceslav Ioniță.

The expert reminds that 2/3 of remittances to the Republic of Moldova are in euros and what last year was 1 billion is now 686 million.
