Economist Veaceslav Ionita decided to give up his membership in the Supervisory Board (SB) of the “Teleradio-Moldova” Company (TRM). Ionita told Info-Prim Neo he made a rational decisional, after had he mulled over the danger of his further remaining in the board. “SB is a body that decides nothing, and our presence (of independent experts –editor’s note) is just polishing its reputation. My presence there is pointless, except for the false signals that SB is doing and deciding something”, says the expert. Ionita stated that since the SB’s founding till present he hasn’t received any record of the meetings for signing. “There is no evidence of my work in that board, as the minutes ought to be signed by all SB members”. He says the Parliament and the Prosecutor’s Office must take action toward the fact that the board worked, voted and elected the Company’s president without any official record signed. After SB appointed on April 10 Valentin Todercan to the office of TRM president and Adela Raileanu as director of the national TV channel “Moldova 1”, some of the applicants for offices in the company disputed the transparency of the competition and said they would sue its outcomes in court. Veaceslav Ionita said on that occasion that he “is ashamed of what happened”, because he was expecting that, following the debates among SB members, the results would be different. Long before the appointment itself, the media in Chisinau, including “Jurnal de Chisinau” and “Timpul de Dimineata” newspapers, were warning that the respective offices had been booked well in advance, mentioning the names of those who were eventually appointed. The parliamentary opposition was saying back then that the contest to elect the senior managers of the Company, as well as the contest for the SB and Broadcasting Coordination Council’s membership, marked the continuation of parcelling out offices and media resources in Moldova between the ruling party and its allies.
