The interim Mayor of Chisinau, Vasile Ursu ordered to the responsible persons from the municipal administrations to “to give a true national facet to the winter holydays”. The disposal of Ursu, made at a working session in the Great National Assembly Square (GNAS), comes only several days after a similar order was given to the local authorities by President Vladimir Voronin. On Friday, at a session dedicated to the winter holydays, the head of state asked that the Christmas tree, which will be named “The Christmas Tree of the Country” is installed in the GNAS. According to a press release of the City Hall, Ursu urged the municipal authorities “to boost efforts in light of the preparations for the winter holydays”. Interim head of the Culture Department, Leonid Gorceac told Info-Prim Neo that on December 5 it was decided upon the place where the Christmas tree will be installed – near the stairs of the central entrance of the Government and will be decorated by the Green Spaces Management Association. The Christmas tree will be 23-25 meter tall and will be purchased from one of the forestry companies from Moldova. Sources from the Green Spaces Management Association told Info-Prim Neo that the interim head of the Management, Elifie Haruta is on his way to purchase the main “Christmas Tree of the Country”. Previously, on November 21, Vasile Ursu recognized that last year’s experience of installing the Christmas tree in the Great National Square was not such a good idea, because the inhabitants of Chisinau are used to gather around the Christmas trees nearby the Holy Gates.
