Vasile Tarlev will go to court to demand that he be included in race for presidency

Former Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev will go to court to demand that he should be included in the race for the October 30 presidential elections. In a news conference at IPN, Vasile Tarlev said that by the refusal to register him as an election runner, the Central Election Commission violated the law and the wish of the Moldovan people.

“We will be making every effort, together with my colleagues, to obtain a court decision for being included in the race for the presidency, even if this can happen several days before the elections,” stated Vasile Tarlev.

He noted he will prove that not all the aspirants were treated equally in the process of collecting signatures from supporters and in the process of registering the applicants as electoral competitors. “I consider the reason for the rejection of my application to be registered as a candidate for President is groundless,” stated the ex-Premier.

Vasile Tarlev noted that the CEC’s decision could have been determined by the fact that some of the candidates for the office of President are afraid of possible competition. “I wanted to run for President of Moldova not accidentally. This was a conscious and necessary step. I care about Moldova and cannot remain indifferent to what is going on. Furthermore, I’m sure that my experience and knowledge accumulated in time can bring more benefits to the county and its people,” he said.

Vasile Tarlev presented 15,393 signatures collected in his favor from supporters to the CEC at a time when a minimum of 15,000 was needed. But the Commission established that only the lists of signatures collected in 11 territorial-administrative units of the second level of the 26 met the conditions for being declared valid.
