Vasile Tarlev says Moldova is ready to ensure an efficient CEI chairmanship in 2008

The Republic of Moldova, as a constitutive part of the region, has enough political will and is ready to apply the principle of regional belongingness, essential for the Central and South-Eastern European states to develop the regional cooperation and advance on the path to European integration, said PM Vasile Tarlev on Tuesday, November 27, at the Central European Initiative (CEI) Summit of the Heads of Government in Sofia, Bulgaria. The Prime Minister saluted the final goal of the Central European Initiative to support the members-states in the process of EU integration. “CEI has to continue to act as an efficient instrument in social, political and economic areas, as well as an intercessor between the EU and the aspirant countries. We plead for a continuous support of the non-EU CEI states in reaching the European aspirations”, said Vasile Tarlev. The PM assured that Moldova is ready to ensure an efficient chairmanship of the Central European Initiative in 2008, aiming at a continuous and steady development of the CEI. While holding the presidency, Moldova will organise a series of political and regional events, especially in the areas of tourism, science, transport and energy, said Vasile Tarlev. Moldova became a fully-fledged member of the South East European Cooperation Process in May 2006. Next year, Moldova will hold the presidency of Central European Initiative, of the South East European Cooperation Process, of CEFTA and RACVIAC Initiative.
