Com-Soc lawmaker Vasile Bolea says he believes that the amendments proposed by the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) to the Law on the Prosecution Service could be ruled unconstitutional. The amendments introduce mechanisms for the performance evaluation of the prosecutor general by a special commission and introduce the possibility to dismiss the prosecutor general from office at the proposal of the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP), Vasile Bolea told a press conference.
According to Vasile Bolea, "the entire society has seen that this project is in a raw state" and that consultation are required, including with international bodies.
The MP added that the bill does not target the institution of the Prosecutor General's Office, rather the person who directly exercises the function of prosecutor general.
The bill to amend the Law on the Prosecution Service was approved last week in the first reading in Parliament. According to Justice Minister Sergiu Litvinenco, at the proposal of the Superior Council of Prosecutors, the bill will be passed in second reading on Tuesday, August 24.
