Former presidential adviser Sergiu Mocanu does not fight the mafia, but wants to influence the criminal case started against his sons - Roman and Adrian Mocanu, Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubko told a news conference on August 16. According to the prosecutor, Sergiu Mocanu denigrates the governing alliance by the statements he makes during the election campaign because he plays the game of the PCRM and several former statesmen, who do not like the reform initiated at the Prosecutor's Office, Info-Prim Neo reports. Valeriu Zubko said that Sergiu Mocanu sought meetings with him for several times to discuss the legal case opened against his sons over hooliganism and causing of serious bodily injuries to a person. “On February 22, 2010, he told us that if the case is not closed, he will use other methods to influence the decision,” the prosecutor said, stressing that Mocanu's statements are nothing else but a method to influence the decision of the prosecutors in the mentioned case. Valeriu Zubko also said that 'puppeteers' are behind Sergiu Mocanu, who want to distract attention from the investigation of criminal cases that are are not convenient for former statesmen, including representatives of the PCRM. They include the case against decision makers of Extremum SRL that illegally set up about 300 stalls at the market situated at 7 Calea Basarabiei St and the case over the illegal purchase of the building located at 11 N. Iorga St by the PCRM. According to Zubko, these cases serve as reasons for denigrating the state institutions, including the Prosecutor's Office. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Sergiu Mocanu said he has demanded clarity in the case of his sons for two years and his 'anti-mafia' actions have nothing to do with that case. The ex-presidential adviser said the Prosecutor General should tender his resignation after reading a statement written by the image marker of the controversial businessman Vlad Plahotniuc, who, according to Mocanu, controls a number of state institutions.
