The Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) is hopeful that both the Communist MPs and the Liberal MPs will vote for Iurie Leanca as Prime Minister, besides the Liberal-Democratic and the Democratic factions, deputy chairman of the PLDM Valeriu Strelet said in the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.
According to Strelet, the PLDM counts on the responsibility of the MPs of the Liberal Party (PL) and of the Party of Communists (PCRM). “Iurie Leanca is pro-European, as the PL is. If they support the country’s integration into the EU, they should vote the government and afterward, if they want, they can move to the opposition and criticize us as much as they want. We had constructive discussions with the PCRM. I know that there are particular conditions, but they promised that they will support the new government,” he stated.
The heavyweight of the PLDM provided some details about the negotiations. “Vlad Filat pleaded for an alliance between the PLDM, PDM and PL up to the last moment, but it was very hard to negotiate with Mihai Ghimpu. The Liberals were cynical and pragmatic and wanted to push us into a corner. We offered our support for Dorin Chirtoaca in the next mayoral elections in Chisinau, but they told us that Dorin will cope himself. We would have accepted the idea of a prosecutor general from outside, but we were to amend the Constitution first. In fact, the problem resides not in the prosecutor general, but in the system. I think the PL didn’t really want to come to power and to assume responsibility in difficult conditions,” he stated.
Valeriu Strelet also revealed that the parties of the new government will not harry to file an application for accession to the EU in the near future, as Iurie Leanca promised earlier. “There are signals that contradictory discussions will appear and the application will be rejected. The submission of the application does not mean immediate granting of the status of candidate for accession. But we will continue the European course and the implementation of the Association Agreement,” he said.
