Valeriu Strelet says how PLDM filters out its ranks

The members of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) who are involved in at least one criminal case are to suspend their membership for the period during which investigations are carried out and until a court decision is passed. This way the PLDM filters out its ranks of members who committed illegalities, ex-Premier Valeriu Strelet, current acting head of the Liberal Democratic Party, said in the press club meeting “Social Resonance”, IPN reports.

Valeriu Strelet noted that some of his party colleagues went further and submitted a more drastic proposal – any member who is involved in a journalistic investigation that can reveal wrongdoings implicating this should also suspend membership until the court proves their innocence.

Asked if the party is ready for early elections, the acting leader of the PLDM said these elections will have a negative effect on the whole country and considers that they will be avoided as there are many forces in Parliament who do not want them. Thus, if the political crisis is overcome now by investing a new executive, in several months, when the head of state is to be elected, there will be persons who will want to overcome a new political crisis.

However, Valeriu Strelet stated that if the early parliamentary elections cannot be avoided, the PLDM will have to strengthen itself. Now they are setting the re-formation priorities and preparing for the congress. Strelet didn’t say when the congress will take place and if he intends to run for the post of leader of the PLDM.

As to Maia Sandu, ex-minister of education on behalf of the PLDM who was proposed for Premier, the acting Liberal-Democratic leader noted that Sandu is to make a decision as to her further political career and avoided saying if she will be fielded for the post of leader of the PLDM.
