The head of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group Valeriu Strelet said the situation at Banca de Economii (BEM) is stable. In a press briefing on February 1, the MP said the administration of the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) delayed the dismissal of the former administration of the BEM. Thus, it should be established who is interested in speculations around this institution, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a press briefing the same day, the Liberal Party head Mihai Ghimpu presented a report by an IMF expert, which warns about the situation at this institution with majority state holding. According to the Liberal leader, the value of the bank’s shares has decreased 3-4 times, while those who brought the bank into such a state want it to be privatized at a low price. He made it clear that the bank’s situation has worsened after representatives of the Liberal Democratic Party entered the bank’s Administration Board. “Mister Ghimpu, as a statesman, acts in an irresponsible manner and drives society into hysteria, causing panic over a state institution that is in a good state and can continue work. The new executive team of the BEM took all the steps needed to stabilize the situation,” said Valeriu Strelet. He also said the fact that the former manager of the BEM was discharged with delay is the central bank’s blame. “It should be noted that the National Bank is managed by a governor named by the Liberal Party,” he stated. This week, a number of politicians have made statements about the situation at Banca de Economii. Analyst Victor Gurau told the press that Banca de Economii, in which about 63,000 persons keep their savings, was robbed of 1.5 billion lei, especially after the change of the bank’s administration. He said that this way they prepare the privatization of the bank at a derisory price
