Valeriu Strelet: I’m a politician who appreciates teamwork

The Government’s priorities for the first 100 days and some details from behind the curtains of the negotiations on the formation of the Alliance for European Integration 3 were discussed in the talk shows “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel and “Friday with Anatolie Golea” on RTR Moldova channel that involved Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet, IPN reports.

Strelet confirmed in both of the programs that the situation in the country is very difficult. “We have chain price rises and tariff rises. But the duty of the political class is to find solutions in difficult situations. We will insistently address the problems and will look for solutions. I’m a party man and I appreciate teamwork, but I’m not a puppet. I will do my duty. We will work as part of a coalition and will cooperate with the parties,” he stated in the talk show “Fabrika”.

As to foreign policy, Valeriu Strelet pleaded for developing the relations with Romania and for keeping good relations with Russia. “We have a strategic partnership with Romania, to which we export 40% of our products. Romania is our main supporter and donor. But a union with this country is now out of question. As regards the relations with Russia, I think we lack agreement. We must restore the dialogue with Russia and we will do our best to defend the national interests. As to the bans, they usually respond in a similar way to these,” he stated.

Valeriu Strelet also said that he intends to meet with the leader of Transnistria to discuss a possible special status for the region. “The situation is now favorable for resolving the Transnistrian dispute owing to the relations between Ukraine and Russia. I think we can agree a reunification calendar,” he stated.

As regards the rise in electricity and gas tariffs, the Premier said he hopes that Moldova will be connected to the European networks. “We are hostage as regards the energy resources. We must take immediate measures in this regard. We have to import over 60% of the consumed electricity. The price of electric power produced in Romania is lower. We will have discussions with the energy regulator ANRE, which should review its decision to increase the natural gas tariffs or it could be accused of fraud,” Strelet said in “Fabrika”.

In the talk show “Friday with Anatolie Golea”, the Prime Minister said it was hard to promote a candidate for premiership and noted that the PLDM tried to keep Maia Sandu in the Cabinet. “We offered Maia Sandu to manage a ministry, but she decided to take time out,” he stated.
