Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet, of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), said he could leave politics if Parliament adopts the censure motion against the Government on October 29. He made such statements in the talk show “In Depth” on Pro TV Chisinau channel, IPN reports.
“I will yet decide, but I will anyway be near my team, my family - the PLDM,” stated the Premier.
Strelet noted that Vlad Filat remains the leader of the PLDM, while he holds the post of the party’s leader on an interim basis. But Filat will be excluded from the PLDM if the accusations about the frauds at Banca de Economii are proven. “If he is convicted by an irrevocable decision that cannot be challenged in an international court, we will have to admit that he committed mistakes that are inadmissible and incompatible with the post of party leader or member. I spoke with Filat on October 15, when he was arrested. He told me that all the accusations and Shor’s statements are nonsense. I believe Filat. It’s clear that Shor made those statements in order to protect himself,” he stated.
Though he said that Filat should return to the position of leader of the PLDM, Valeriu Strelet does not rule out the possibility that Maia Sandu can take over the leadership. “If she wants to apply for this post, I think she will enjoy full support,” said the Liberal-Democratic heavyweight.
In the program, Strelet pleaded for accelerating the implementation of the government program. “We need immediate changes so as to first of all remedy the socioeconomic situation and to really fight corruption. These issues are stipulated in the government program. But the situation has changed. On the one hand, one of the main political leaders was arrested. On the other hand, the people protest. The people’s support for the Government is minimal. All those from the ruling alliance should undertake common commitments in this situation,” stated the Premier.
