“I want an improvement in the situation and a national conciliation pact,” Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet said in a talk show on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.

“I’m neat the ordinary people who protest with my soul. I realize that we need changes and a part of protesters’ demands can be found in the Government’s plan of action. We need political stability. This is a condition imposed by the IMF. They are not tempted to sign an agreement when there is uproar. We do not have much time at the disposal. By November, when a new IMF mission is to come, we must fulfill the imposed conditions. We will do our best to succeed,” said the Premier.

Valeriu Strelet leveled criticism at the organizers of the protests, saying these avoid a dialogue with the authorities. “These protests impose the feeling of necessity of changes, but erect also impediments. They want the prosecutor general, the governor, the director of the National Anticorruption Center and others to be dismissed. But who should dismiss them if they also demand that Parliament resign? They should allow us to act first and then, if we do not succeed, they can seek the resignation,” he stated.

The Prime Minister noted he knows that Moldova purchases electric power from the Cuchurgan Power Plant through the agency of a Transnistrian company that charges a twice higher price. “We pay too much for power. I received a report from the special services. That firm registered in Tiraspol has only two employees. The National Anticorruption Center is investigating the case. But we are also looking for other suppliers. A solution is to build an interconnection with the networks from the West. If we unable to, we will could buy electricity from Russia. Technically, this is possible. The renewable sources of energy are an alternative. We project that in 2016 these sources will ensure 20% of the power consumption in Moldova,” said Valeriu Strelet.
