Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet said he is ready to meet with protesters in the coming days, but does not see reasons for resigning. He made such a statement in a special edition of the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.
“The Government’s dismissal could lead to a series of systemic problems that would result in a collapse. I don’t understand why they demand that the Cabinet should resign. During the five weeks and six days of the appointment, we worked a lot and laid the basis of processes that would solve the problems highlighted by the protesters. We managed to pay the overdue agricultural subsidies and prevented the annulment of Moldova’s right to issue the Green Card. We initiated the process of liquidating the banks involved in the theft of billions of lei,” stated the Premier.
Valeriu Strelet considers the protest organizers pursue other goals than the protesters do. “I have all the respect for the protesters. I’m sure that the people who protest had other demands than those formulated by the leaders of the Platform “Dignity and Truth”. Most probably, the people asked for higher salaries, the annulment of the higher tariffs, etc. The protest organizers want to destroy everything,” he said.
He also said that he is ready for a dialogue with the leaders of the Platform and to present a report on the Government’s work and a roadman for remedying the situation to them, but is skeptical about the results of this dialogue. “They do not even want to listen. They have other interests. I do not see the wish to make compromises in the group of leaders who manage the protesters,” added Valeriu Strelet.
He noted that he was offended by the use of such labels as ‘thief’ and ‘criminal’ against him by those who mounted the rostrum in the Great National Assembly Square. “I feel offended as I’m not a thief. I have many honest colleagues who are not thieves. Some of the leaders of the Platform should apologize,” stated the Premier.
